This is a great article and points out many facts that people ignore.

When I first started networking, I expected everyone that I met to refer business to me. I didn't understand why people didn't remember me the next time I saw them and why they weren't sending me business. That sounds very dumb to me now, but it is what I expected at the time. Now, I see people making the same mistakes that I was doing.

Once I figured out that you have to build a relationship with the people that you meet, then the referrals started coming. By getting to know the people I was meeting allowed me to share what I did, and also let them share information with me. This relationship building allowed me to refer people to them as well.

I have had the opportunity to get to know a lot of people in Business 400 and I enjoy making the relationships with them. Business 400 is the best place that I have found to network with people as there are so many new faces each time. If people are missing out, I hope that they can learn from my mistakes and learn to network effectively and build these relationships.

Jon,

To optimize your website, you can do it yourself by using keywords in your title, description and then placed in your website text. Or you can hire a search engine optimization company to do this for you.

Optimizing a site and getting it to rank takes a few months. With search engines, the results aren't immediate. On average it takes about 2 months before you see top rankings.
